Listed below are a few examples of how Operation American Pride, Inc. has been able to assist our military heroes who find themselves in need of a little extra assistance.
August 2010 - A Viet Nam ERA Veteran recently had his right leg amputated. This was a non-service related procedure however, he is a Veteran of the Viet Nam War and was in need of assistance. The James Haley VA Hospital social worker requested assistance from Operation American Pride. Operation American Pride was blessed to be able to purchase the vehicle adjustment he needed in order to be able to drive his car and remain independent.
July 2010 - A soldier recovering from a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and severe burns over 90 % of his body was in in need of assistance. The soldier only has use of one hand, and currently cannot speak. As he continually drops his notebook computer, Operation American Pride, Inc. was contacted to assist in purchasing him an IPAD. Thru the assistance of many caring citizens, Operation American Pride was able to purchase him an IPAD which he uses to communicate. We thank our Lord for such a blessing of generosity from so many wonderful Americans.
July 2010 - A soldier who had completed his rehabilitation at James A. Haley VA center, was scheduled to return to his home in Wisconsin. He estimated he had enough funds to get him half way home driving his car. Operation American Pride, Inc., donated sufficient funding to insure he would make it all the way to his home of record in Wisconsin.
July 2010 - A Marine Veteran, age 31, living in California and recovering from a stroke was in need of financial assistance. Operation American Pride, Inc. donated funds to assist him in a time of need.
July 2010 - A soldier was recovering from an injury sustained in combat at the James A. Haley hospital, he was injured when his helicopter crashed in combat. The soldier’s home base is in Alaska! His young wife and children were allowed to accompany him to the VA center. Funds began to run low, the mother was assisting with his recovery therefore, she was required to place the small children in day care. Funds ran out and more were needed for childcare. Operation American Pride, Inc., donated funds to help cover daycare expenses.
June 2010 - A soldier recovering from injuries in combat, who is now a paraplegic, was in need of a printer for his home computer. The printer would eliminate a 50 mile round-trip drive each time he needed to send paperwork to the VA hospital. Furthermore, he is going through his “Med Board” and was required to scan and fax paperwork to Fort Bragg, NC. Each time he had to send a new document, he had to drive the 50 mile round-trip to use the James A. Haley scanner and printer. A case worker requested assistance in obtaining a printer for the soldier. Operation American Pride, Inc., ordered the printer and delivered it to his home. What an honor it was to meet this young man. He was so positive, so looking forward to his future, we were very humbled to have met him.
June 2010 - A young soldier recovering from injuries sustained in combat, which has left him a paraplegic, was chosen to participate in the “Military Paraplegic Games” in Denver, Colorado which were to be held July 1-11, 2010. The young soldier purchased a ticket from Tampa to Denver for his “bride to be” in order for her to be his caregiver while in Denver. His trip was covered by the military, however, he could not go unless he had a caregiver to go with him. When he realized this, he discovered he did not have sufficient funds to bring her from West Virginia to Tampa in order to make the trip with him. Operation American Pride, Inc., donated one round-trip ticket from Charleston, West Virginia to Tampa, Florida.
May 2010 - A father was in need of an airline ticket to return home after assisting with his son’s recovery. He had spent two months working with his son and helping him to recover. Operation American Pride, Inc., donated an airline ticket to Chicago.
May 2010 - A Navy man was going through rehabilitation at the James A. Haley hospital for wounds suffered in a training accident. While going through his rehabilitation, he met a young lady online. Their friendship blossomed and she made one trip per month to assist in his recovery. The James A. Haley social worker asked if we could assist in her transportation costs to and from Mississippi. Operation American Pride, Inc., donated sufficient funds to allow her four additional trips.
May 2010 - A elderly parent spent three months at the James A. Haley hospital helping her son through rehabilitation and was ready to return to her home in Jacksonville, Florida. She had arrived at James A. Haley with her husband, however, he had to return home after only one month. The husband returned home in the family car. When she was ready to return home, she discovered she did not have sufficient funds to return home. Operation American Pride,Inc. donated a one-way airline ticket to get her home.
April 2010 - A soldier recovering from a severe spinal injury, which left him as a quadriplegic, and who is living in the Tampa area was in need of financial assistance. This brave soldier is a father of a beautiful little girl. Operation American Pride, Inc., assisted this American hero through a financial donation.
